Comox Valley Children's Choir
...for the love of singing
We Are...
Rehearsals are high energy and provide young singers with basic vocal skills, musical sensitivity, performance experience and the chance to be part of a vibrant musical community. Singers will be challenged and rise to that challenge – that's what music can do!
Choir rehearsals include:
-
instruction in basic vocal pedagogy
- introduction to basic rhythmic and melodic concepts
- musical games and activities
- repertoire preparation
Singers in the Nova Voce II choir are further challenged by repertoire that incorporates part singing, familiarization with choral music score reading, development of rhythmic reading skills and more independent singing opportunities.
Details, Details, Details!
All Choir rehearsals are held Thursdays after school at the Church of. John the Divine, 579 5th St. in Courtenay. The term choir (Nova Voce I) rehearses from 3:45-5:00pm and the year-long auditioned choir (Nova Voce II) rehearses from 5:30-7:00pm.
Nova Voce I Choir tuition is $185 or $115 with parent volunteer time for the term. Term 1 runs September to December; Term 2, January to April. Both terms include 12 rehearsals and 3-4 performances.
The Nova Voce I Choir is geared to - but not exclusively for - younger singers and/or new singers with little previous choral experience. Children do not have to audition and are welcome whatever their musical background. This rehearsal runs Thursdays from 3:45pm until 5:00pm and includes lots of movement, games, the beginnings of vocal pedagogy and some great repertoire. The choir usually performs at least three times at various community venues and functions in addition to the their own final concert.
Rehearsals for Winter 2012 term are:
January 12, 19, 26 February 2, 9, 16, 23 March 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 Final Concert: Friday, March 30, 7pmNova Voce II runs September to May, and is geared to older and/or more experienced singers. Tuition is $400 or $250 with a parent volunteer contribution. Participation is by audition, held at the first rehearsal in September and January (12th). The Winter rehearsal schedule is as listed above.
The rehearsal pace will be quicker and singers should be able to match pitch, possess basic music-reading skills and have experience singing in a choral setting. Strong, but focused energy welcome! This choir will perform some repertoire in common with the younger choir, but also work on more technically demanding music.
This choir will perform at the North Island Festival of the Performing Arts in February, with many other performances yet to be confirmed.
